- COMMUTER DISK RELEASE NOTE
- Version 4.10
- ----------------------------------------------------
-
- * New features in this release:
-
- 1.) Add /L option to load driver even when the drive has not
- been partitioned yet. Usually, the driver will not load and
- ask users to run CDISK.EXE install/partition/formate utility
- first. With this option, experienced users can use DOS FDISK
- utility to create drive partition then format the drive instead
- of using CDISK.EXE utility provided by DataStor Technology.
- We strongly discourage users to use this option unless there
- is no other choices.
-
- 2.) Add /X option to let driver to config PCMCIA controller
- chip instead of Card/Socket serive. This will save user's large
- amount of useable memory in DOS environment. There are three things
- users have be aware of - a.) IO address and interrupt settings are
- not controlled by centrl resource manager, users may need to
- find the available resources themselves, b.) it only supports
- Intel 365 PCIC compatible controller chip (means all PCMCIA
- chips except DataBook chip) c.) This is only supported in drivers
- utilities DOES NOT have this capability.
-
-
- V 4.00
- 1.) World's first PCMCIA format utility for Windows 95 to
- support hard drive more than 528MB.
-
- 2.) This ver driver consolidate the pc_card.sys enabler driver
- into disk driver. This will greatly simplfy the installation
- procedure without rebooting the system.
-
- 3.) New command line opions (not valid for Parallel Port)
-
- /P:XXX - to force PCMCIA base port address (XXX - Hex)
- /I:XX - to force PCMCIA interrupt setting (XX - Decimal)
-
- for example
-
- /P:180 - force system to request address 180h
- /I:12 - force system to request interrupt 12
-
-
- V 3.20
- This version add IDE drive slave support
-
- V 3.10
- This version re-sync with CD-ROM driver for better daisy
- chain support
-
- V 3.00
- 1.) This new verson driver combines the support of parallel
- port and PCMCIA/ISA IDE interfaces.
-
- 2.) Fixed some compatibilty problems when user put a
- pre-formatted drive in commuter drive. Now commuter disk
- is fully inter-changeable with desktop drives, as long as
- the desktop PC follows 63 Sec/Trk, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 head
- translation LBA parameter.
-
- V 2.00
- New hardware - a DataStor Technology custom design ASIC
- is shipped with this package, it consumes less power,
- more reliable and more configurable. Benifits are:
-
- - fully EPP, bi-direction and uni-direction parallel
- port support, daisy chain specification compliant,
- support up to 8 devices (hardware) plus printer
-
- - device order can be mixed, no sequence limit
-
- - plug and play, automatic ID assignment
-
- - software programable trasfer rate
-
- - built-in error checking for data reliability
-
- New command line option:
-
- /DX X = 0..7 - EPP wait state setting, default setting
- is automatic momd, driver will figure out the right
- delay for each system every time it loads.
-
- * Big drive support:
-
- Version 1.03 software breaks the IDE 528MB limit, now
- Commuter disk supports drive capacity up to 8GB.
-
- * Switches used in the command line:
-
- /E - force EPP mode where is available
-
- /U - force uni-directional 4 bit mode read (SPP mode only)
-
- /S - force to slow down data transfer (SPP mode only)
-
- /F - force to speed up data transfer (SPP mode only)
-
- Syquest IDE drive support with /P option
-
- * Under normal situation, the driver program will automatically
- select the optimized transfer rate for your computer. There is
- no need for you to set any of these switches. Unless you
- experienced some data reliability problems (which may never
- happen), then try /S or /U option.
-
- Examples:
-
- device=c:\commuter\cdisk.sys /U
-
- will force slow mode data transfer.
-
- or
-
- device=c:\commuter\cdisk.sys /U
-
- will force uni-directional mode data transfer for some badly
- designed parallel port.
-
- ----------------------------------------------------
-
-
-
- * The driver 386SL.SYS must be installed for machines
- equipted with Intel 386SL, 486SL or 82091AA CHIP,
- others are not nessary.
-
- + 1. device=c:\commuter\386SL.SYS (INTEL EPP mode only)
- 2. device=c:\commuter\cdisk.sys
